Hey Kathleen. Not yet, but it's on my shortlist of connections to make in the next month or so! I used to attend November Project workouts and I was remembering their partnerships with New Balance and The North Face. Good food for thought since they didn't have 501c3 status at that time (which is basically our main obstacle.) Thanks for suggesting. I don't suppose you have a contact at New Balance, but if you do, feel free to email me at miles@bostontrails.org :)
The hearing was very positive. Miles’ opening statement was eloquent and persuasive and he answered all the councilor’s questions fully, backed up with pertinent facts. Great job!
Have you ever talked to Boston By Foot? I don't think they're big/powerful/whatever enough to be a sponsor, but they might have faced some of the same questions and have some ideas?
Maureen, I don't know what to say except that it takes resources to create trails and to sustain them. As I explained in my post, we are trying as hard as we can to find institutional support for the Walking City Trail so that we don't have to solicit the wider public for traill contributions. As someone with a day job that yields a modest income, I am more than aware that budgets are stretched thin for many of us. But the road to institutional support is filled with obstacles of the structural variety, which we are trying to surmount, and I would rather be transparent about this with our community than propagate the idea that trails like the WCT can be grown by volunteer labor alone. Myself and my trail colleagues have contributed thousands of hours of volunteer labor to this project. So if you have a problem with us asking for support, I have no answer.
Thank you for your service and support. Unfortunately, the solicitation was the first time I ever heard about this. As well, both my mail and email boxes are full things that warrant my immediate dollar.
My hope is that 2025 will bring AGI as well as UBI.
Have you reached out to the folks at New Balance?

Thank you, Susan. I really appreciate the letter of support that you wrote and was happy to share it with the council.

Yet another solicitation!
